We have so many wins and so many reasons to be grateful for this gym and this community. We actually stumbled upon Trinity when a couple of the trainers were out in the community at a farmers market. At the time, my now-wife Stephanie was preparing to move to Phoenix and wanted to find a new gym home. I saw the signs, and I’ll be honest—I was very cautious about checking out a nonprofit gym. Ha...
Stephanie signed up for a free week, and I decided to tag along and sign up too. We went to the 5:30 a.m. class. I had never been to a group fitness class and had never done any strength training before. The gym director, Collin, asked me when the last time I did deadlifts was. He followed that up with, “High school?” I laughed and nervously said, “Never.”
He was incredible. He started me with wooden “plates” and a bar and patiently walked me through proper form and technique. After the first day, I could barely walk from being so sore. But we kept going.
Stephanie eventually had to head back to Texas to wrap up a few things before making the full move to Phoenix, AZ. I had a decision to make: go back to my solo workouts or keep coming to Trinity. It was an easy choice. At the time, there was a three-month promotion, so I signed up and committed. I started going regularly and really got to know the staff, the trainers, and the people in the classes.
I’d often go to the Saturday workouts and ask for prayers here and there. One of the trainers was absolutely crushing the prayers. One day I complimented him, and he laughed and said, “Well, that’s good, because I’m the youth pastor at our church.” That moment said a lot about this place.
Fast forward about ten months. Stephanie and I were getting married and looking for an outdoor venue. Aaron and Salena, who are trainers and board members, immediately said, “Use our backyard.” We hadn’t even known them for a year. Their generosity completely blew us away. We got married in their backyard, and we are still incredibly grateful for that gift.
Now this community is so much more than a gym. We share church with many people here. We have family gatherings, hikes, game nights, celebrations, and support during the hard seasons. I’m now a trainer myself, and I can lift a whole lot more than wooden plates. Ha.
This place truly is special. Trinity isn’t just about fitness—it’s about people, faith, encouragement, and showing up for each other. I’ll forever be grateful for God’s timing in us finding this community at a farmers market.
